5-day practical Day Skipper course

A crossing to Ceuta from Gibraltar on a Bavaria is a unique experience. The captain is a genius, who knows what he is doing and makes you have a good time. With winds of more than 30 knots and waves of more than 3 meters, he remained calm and safe on board at all times. I learned a lot and had more fun. Recommendable!

A fantastic sailing and team building experience. During the Day Skipper I grew both technically and personally. Our instructor Wim handled every situation with calmness and a smile. Day Skipper Course

El Day Skipper Course de la Royal Yachting Association es la primera formación que nos habilitará para navegar como patrones de pequeñas embarcaciones a vela en aguas que conozcamos durante la salida y la puesta de sol y cerca de la costa. Este certificado sería el equivalente a la Licencia de Navegación o el título de Patrón de Navegación Básica en España, con la diferencia de que el "Day Skipper" no está recomendado para la navegación nocturna.

Además, si no tenemos los conocimientos téoricos suficientes, la RYA recomienda realizar previamente el curso teórico de Day Skipper, un curso de 40 horas que puede realizarse presencialmente o a distancia y que incluye un test final para acreditar la asimilación de conocimientos. A diferencia de la formación de los títulos náuticas en España, la RYA incluye formación en navegación electrónica en este curso.
Contenido del Day Skipper Course
El curso de Day Skipper de la Royal Yachting Association está compuesto por los siguientes contenidos:
- Preparación para el mar, trabajo de cubierta.
- Navegación.
- Patronía.
- Meteorología.
- Reglamento Internacional.
- Trabajos de mantenimiento y reparación.
- Motores.
- Avituallamiento.
- Situaciones de emergencia.
- Manejo de barcos a motor y manejo de velas.
- Travesías nocturnas.
- Uso de cartas de navegación en papel y electrónicas, llamadas DSC.
- Uso de la radio.
- Uso de bengalas, arneses de seguridad, salvavidas y balsas.
Características del Day Skipper Course

El curso de Day Skipper de la RYA se caracteriza por tener una duración total de cinco días completos, durante los cuales los alumnos aprenden lo necesario para empezar a navegar de forma autónoma. Además, antes de hacer este curso se recomienda haber navegado anteriormente al menos 5 días habiendo recorrido un mínimo de 100 millas, experiencia que si no tenemos, podemos obtener realizando previamente el curso de Competent crew.

Por otro parte, la edad mínima requerida para poder realizar este curso de la Royal Yachting Association son 16 años.
