A comprehensive course to learn chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. The RYA Day Skipper online theory course is for inexperienced and aspiring skippers who have sailed extensively but always using electronics (chart poltter and GPS).

The online course equips you with sufficient knowledge to navigate safely around familiar waters by day plus a knowledge of lights to introduce you to night cruising.

Developments in technology and electronic navigation aids now available on most cruising boats is also included.

Essential if you are going to do the RYA Day Skipper practical course. The knowlege you will learn on this online course prepares you to:
  • Make informed decisions on board the yacht as Skipper.
  • Know where you are.
  • keep your crew and yacht safe
  • Arrive to your destination in the most effective way given the tide/currents/wind/sea state and traffic.

    You can start the course anytime and login on your laptop or phone anywhere there is wifi. Although the website forces you to choose a start date, you can start the course whenever you want.
    The course takes approx 45 hours including exams, you do in in your free time, there is no fixed timeline. You watch the videos, demos, quiz, questions and chartwork in your onw time.
    You have 12 months to complete the course and then there is an option to extend for an admin fee if you have not finished.

    A crossing to Ceuta from Gibraltar on a Bavaria is a unique experience. The captain is a genius, who knows what he is doing and makes you have a good time. With winds of more than 30 knots and waves of more than 3 meters, he remained calm and safe on board at all times. I learned a lot and had more fun. Recommendable!

    People of this school have an incredible navigation experience and they transmit it by mentoring us in all the work on the boat: testing engine, planning route, triming, controling wheel and docking or undocking.
    My problem was my English to take advantage of the experience despite the patience of Ian and the tripu.

    We've enjoyed our Day skipper course very much and learned a lot from our instructor John who allowed us to make mistakes and learn from them. The straits of Gibraltar are an excellent area to test your skills and experience sailing in close proximity of large vessels. We recommend this sailing school to anyone who is seriously interested in sailing.

Lots of useful, practical tips on handling the yacht & manoeuvres.
