What is La Ruta de la Sal?
The official name of this race is La Ruta de la Sal - Trofeo Pepe Ferres. This offshore Mediterranean regatta is one of the sailing competitions with the greatest participation in the country and is authorized by the federations of autonomous sailing in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Valencia.
It has 3 different routes:
1- Barcelona to Ibiza.
2- Denia to Ibiza.
3- Mallorca to Ibiza.
The regatta is limited to 175 boats that get their spots in strict order of registration.
When is La Ruta de la Sal 2019?
La Ruta de la Sal has been every year during Easter since 1989 and lasts four days. In 2019, the boats will embark on Thursday, April 18th and return on Sunday, April 21st.
Original route of La Ruta de la Sal
The origin of the race dates back to the Second Carlist War in 1846, when the Carlists blocked the city of Barcelona and salt supplies were declining. A businessman proposed to several shipowners the challenge of bringing salt from the Pitiusas islands, economically rewarding the first to arrive.
The orginal route of the race goes from Denia to San Antonio de Portmany in Ibiza, passing by southern Formentera and northern Ibiza.
Do I need experience to participate in La Ruta de la Sal?
No experience is necessary to participate in this race. The only requirement is a desire to learn and enjoy. For people with experience, it is an opportunity to participate in a competition of reference and enjoy beautiful days with your favorite hobby.
