Adventure offered by Joaquin

We will begin the journey among cetaceans in the Bay of Algeciras, setting sail from Alcaidesa Marina in Línea de la Concepción.

On this voyage we will visit the coast of Cadiz, Tarifa, Bolonia, Zahara de los Atunes, Barbate, Cape Trafalgar, El Palmar, the Algarve in Portugal and we will sail around the most emblematic islands of Macaronesia, such as Ilha de Porto Santo, Ilheu da Cal, Madeira and Ilhas Desertas.

It is recommended to arrive a few days before, as we have planned a 4x4 excursion prior to the crossing where we will visit Tarifa. Here we can go to Bolonia beach, where you can see the largest dune in Europe, and visit the archaeological site of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia, considered the first canning factory on the planet since it was established in the heart of the Almadraba; the Romans already fished tuna and made preserves that were transported to the heart of their Empire for commercialization. Afterwards we will visit Atlanterra and Zahara de los Atunes, where we will enjoy a good meal at the Casa Juanito restaurant and we will be able to visit its beaches.

It will be an adventure where we will have the opportunity to spot cetaceans, sea birds, natural caves, deserted islands or volcanic islands and where we will enjoy deep-sea fishing; with luck, we will eat tuna, emperor or dolphinfish caught by ourselves (nor will we say no to any other species that bites our fishing rods).

We will stop at the Algarve coast, specifically at Benagil Cave (Portimao) to swim and explore the cave. In Portimao we can visit the fishing village of Ferragudo and eat some delicious sardines. We will continue sailing along the coast of Lagos, Sagres and Cape St. Vincent. From there we will head to the island of Madeira, where we can visit Funchal and take a zodiac excursion to the Ilhas Desertas to spot cetaceans or seabirds, as well as take a walk along its deserted coast.

Departure and arrival days may vary due to organizational issues!

    First day:
At 06:00h we will set sail from the Bay of Algeciras and will sail 170nm

    Second day:
At 10:00 a.m. we will drop anchor at Benagil Cave. We will go down to the cave with the dinghy and have a very refreshing swim. Then we will dock at Portimao Marina. We can go ashore and visit Praia da Rocha, Ferragudo or Portimao Marina, whichever one of us would like to see the most. We will have dinner in Feragudo and sleep in the port.

    Third and fourth days:
At 09.00h we will set sail from Portimao Marina towards Sagres, sailing along the coast of Avor and Lagos. We will begin an Atlantic crossing of approximately 82 hours, we will set sail and let ourselves be carried by the trade winds towards Madeira. We will enjoy moments of fishing and, with luck, whale watching on their way to the islands of Macaronesia.

    Fifth day:
At 18:00 we will arrive at the port of Funchal, where we will spend the night. We can go ashore and enjoy a delicious dinner in the local restaurants of the port.

We can go down to the island and walk along its coasts, as well as spot the native seabirds of the area. Afterwards, we will return to the port of Funchal and we can spend the afternoon visiting the city or going up in its cable car to enjoy wonderful panoramic views.

    Seventh day:
At 10:00 a.m. we will conclude our Macaronesia adventure on board the catamaran. After that, you can enjoy a few more days of vacation on land, which is the best way to take advantage of and explore the entire island of Madeira: tropical corners, colorful markets, hidden villages and many more adventures to enjoy. You can also choose to continue with us on the next voyage, visiting more islands of Macaronesia and heading to Lanzarote.

During the voyage, 4-hour watches will be carried out daily, consisting of being in charge of the boat and observing possible strange elements or changes in the weather, strength or direction of the wind. Prior training will be given to know how to act in the event of changes, as well as the need to notify the captain in order to make the relevant decisions. Generally, these watches will be during the day, since the captain will work at night since these require greater concentration. It will also be necessary to collaborate in the kitchen and in shifts; each person will have to cook and take care of cleaning the kitchen alternately.

During our rest hours we can do different activities: fishing (equipment is included, you can bring bait such as plastic squid, or buy bait on board), reading, recording videos, playing board games (chess, backgammon, cards or dice), watching movies or series (we have a Samsung Smart TV, we recommend bringing a hard drive to connect it, smartphones can also be connected, preferably Android) listening to music (we have a Bluetooth Hi-Fi system where we can connect our mobile phones), doing physical exercise or yoga.

Boat details

Welcome to the announcement of a fabulous Lagoon 42 catamaran. The boat is a luxurious yet contemporary catamaran that features cabinetry finishes and great comfort in all its cabins. The galley is well located between the cabins and the cockpit of the boat and has a bathing ladder for easy access to the water.

The catamaran is equipped for ocean navigation as it crosses the Atlantic from Ibiza to the San Blas Archipelago, these islands are located in the "Guna Yala" region, an indigenous region in Panama, inhabited by the Guna ethnic group, where we will be during the winter seasons.
It is a sustainable ECO catamaran, equipped with solar panels to minimize diesel consumption.

On board you will find ample comfort, especially provided by catamarans due to their spaciousness and good design.
The boat has two refrigerators, a cooler on the deck to keep all your drinks nice and cold. You will also find an outdoor barbecue where you can cook some nice fish or meat.
Our goal is for you to enjoy an unforgettable and eco-sustainable holiday, for which we recommend the maximum use of sails possible.
We will visit the most wonderful places, the most crystalline coves and enjoy magnificent sunrises and sunsets on board.
