We will begin our adventure in Funchal (Madeira Island). The journey will take place sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. We will start with a zodiac trip from Funchal to the Ilhas Desertas, where we will be able to spot different species of cetaceans (whales and dolphins). We will be able to go ashore and walk around its deserted islands and we will also see seabirds, some of which are native to these islands.
On the Atlantic voyage from Funchal, our next destination will be the Savage Islands, an archipelago that belongs to Portugal although Spain has considered it its own since the 15th century, and they are a Biosphere Natural Reserve. They are located 165km from the Canary Islands and 280km from Madeira. During his visit and exploration of these islands, the legendary Jacques Cousteau described them as having the cleanest and most crystalline waters he had ever seen.
From the Salvajes Islands we will head towards the waters of the Canary Islands, making our first port of call on the island of Alegranza, and we will spend a night anchored in its cove. This island is private, but as good sailors who make friends in every port, we are friends of its owner Kike, who will be waiting to welcome us and invite us to visit the island, see its volcanic crater, swim in its natural pools and practice spinning or jib fishing, as well as having a barbecue to cook the catches we have managed to catch.
The next day we will visit La Graciosa, another very beautiful island that belongs to the Lanzarote archipelago. From there we will head south of the island, specifically to Marina Rubicon in Playa Blanca. Before entering the marina, we will stop at Papagayo beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, located within a natural park.
We will undertake this adventure on our Lagoon 42 catamaran, which offers all the comforts for a trip of this nature.
Upon arrival at Marina Rubicon, our Macaronesia adventure will come to an end, but we recommend spending a few extra days on the island of Lanzarote to enjoy everything the island has to offer: the work of the famous painter and sculptor César Manrique (you can visit some of his houses converted into art museums), its beautiful and iconic beaches (Playa Papagayos, Playa Flamingos, Playa Dorada...) and the Castillo de San Marcial de Rubicon Femes, which you can visit.
The island is also famous for its volcanic white wines. It is worth seeing these vines growing in this volcanic soil that gives so much flavour and substance to its wines. The vines grow between stone banks to protect them from the winds. You can also visit some of its wineries.
Before arriving in Madeira we have an additional adventure through Macaronesia, sailing from Cadiz to Madeira. You can find all the information in the following link:
