We begin our island-to-island journey on Faial, where there’s time to explore Horta and its legendary Peter’s Café Sport, a favourite gathering place for ocean sailors since 1918. Wander along the marina and admire the vibrant murals left behind by crews from across the globe — a living tapestry celebrating decades of seafaring tradition. Before we set sail, you may also visit the Whale Museum, an inspiring reminder of the giants that inhabit these waters and the importance of safeguarding their habitat.
From Horta, we point the bow north and cross the São Jorge Channel toward Terceira, dropping anchor in the bay of Angra do Heroísmo — a UNESCO World Heritage site and the oldest town in the Azores. Take time to stroll its Renaissance streets and 16th-century fortifications, or venture inland to the extraordinary Algar do Carvão, a volcanic chimney plunging 90 metres underground. The island’s vineyards and the natural lava-rock swimming pools of Biscoitos also make for memorable excursions.
All too soon, we continue our passage east to São Miguel. During the crossing, keep watch for sperm whales hunting in the deep waters, and remain alert for possible sightings of blue, fin, and sei whales. Pods of bottlenose, Atlantic spotted, and common dolphins often join us in this part of the ocean. Guests are welcome to steer the ship, adjust sails, or assist with navigation — or simply unwind with a book, share games with fellow travellers, and enjoy the unmatched stargazing at night.
Our voyage concludes in Ponta Delgada, a cosmopolitan mid-Atlantic port framed by lush landscapes, geothermal valleys, and charming Azorean villages. After leaving the ship, consider exploring the island’s hot springs, volcanic calderas, and sweeping viewpoints. To the west lie the iconic Sete Cidades crater lakes — one of the Azores’ most celebrated natural wonders and a striking finale to your tall-ship adventure.
