Great sailing experience with Gaby to Formentera and Ibiza. The crossing to the islands was what I was looking for. Radar and brand new AIS equipment was of great help during the going out at night. Very good cooking and a lot of fun during Christmas and New Year.

Jaime is an expert navigator who knows how to adapt to the level of each person and thus transmit what he knows. He is flexible when it comes to making plans, schedules and so on, so the trip was very pleasant and instructive. On top of that, he takes care of the provisions and cooks some first-class dishes!

  • If you are thinking of planning your trip for Christmas, an option that is as original as it is attractive is sailing on a sailboat. Whether you want to enjoy the holidays in a different way or if you just want to escape from land at this time, you can set out to sea and experience the change of year on board a boat.
  • What boat trips can be made during Christmas?

In general, any other sailing that can be done during the rest of the year can also be done at Christmas. You just have to take into account, as at any time, that the weather is suitable for making the crossing in optimal safety conditions. This is usually not known for sure until three days before embarkation.

Therefore, as for Christmas trips on board a ship, you will find proposals for sailing holidays, getaways lasting less days or even deep-sea crossings for those who wish to venture on a trip on the high seas. Among the latter, you may find crossings of the Atlantic to the Caribbean, as these usually take place between the months of November and January.
  • Where can I travel for Christmas?

There are some destinations, on all continents, that we can offer as suggestions for a sailing trip for Christmas:
    • Balearic Islands. Although it may seem surprising that the traditional summer nautical destination appears on such a list, actually travelling to the Balearic Islands at Christmas means finding the islands with much fewer tourists, which means having the possibility of getting a mooring in port and visiting the islands in a more relaxed way.
    • Caribbean Sea. Winter is perhaps the ideal time to visit the Caribbean by boat, not only because of the mild temperatures in the area but also because the winds and general climate of the area favour sailing between islands.
    • Thailand. One of the most popular tourist countries of the century also offers a good opportunity to take a trip at Christmas thanks to its warm waters, tropical climate and, above all, the paradisiacal islands and beaches that make sailing around Thailand an experience that is difficult to match.
    • Seychelles Islands. This archipelago located in the Indian Ocean offers a luxurious alternative for Christmas holidays on a sailing boat. In addition to the beauty of its waters and beaches, it has the advantage that the distance between islands is short, which makes it possible to design good sailing routes.
    • French Polynesia. The idyllic landscapes of this exotic destination, where turquoise lagoons and coral reefs abound, are ideal for leisurely exploring on a Christmas sailing holiday. The waters of the oceanic archipelago, especially those of Bora Bora, are also perfect for diving and snorkelling.
    • Canary Islands. In Spain, this is the traditional Christmas destination for those who want to escape the cold of the peninsula. Although sailing must take into account the strength of the wind at this time, which can make the crossing difficult, it is no less true that the temperatures of the archipelago are a very strong attraction for some.
  • Are there Christmas trips for singles? And with children?
Of course, you can take part in any Christmas trip even if you are alone. These are shared cruises, where you will reserve your place and share life on board with other sailors and the skipper.

You can also sign up for a sailing holiday as a couple or with your friends, always subject to availability.

Regarding sailing with children, there are Christmas trips where minors are allowed on board and others that, for safety reasons, are restricted only to adults. The best thing to do is to consult the skipper through the web chat so that he can inform you about it.
  • What activities are done on a Christmas boat trip?

It depends on the specific proposal, but during Christmas sailing trips, the typical events of these holidays are usually celebrated on board. Among them, New Year's Eve stands out, an even more special moment since you can celebrate the end and beginning of the year at sea, eating grapes and a glass of cava on board the sailboat with the rest of the sailors.

Apart from this, there is also the possibility of going ashore to explore the place where you are sailing or to practice different activities related to the sea (snorkeling, paddle surfing...) always subject to weather conditions and the programme planned for the trip.
  • Can I sign up for a boat trip even if I have no experience?
In general, sailing holidays or sailing getaways do not require previous nautical experience. Logically, it is always advisable to have sailed a bit before and to carry biodramina in case you get seasick, but it is not usually mandatory and depends more on your character and attitude on board.

Some experience is required for offshore voyages or those that involve crossing more unstable waters, mainly for safety reasons. These trips are recommended for sailors who wish to add nautical miles or are looking for a challenge on the high seas.
