Day 1: Welcome aboard, including admin checks, boarding, crew berths allocation, and introductions. A detailed yacht tour with safety briefings on equipment usage, fire prevention, and hygiene is conducted. Emphasis on personal and yacht safety, introduction to sea equipment, distress call procedures, and eight essential knots. Afternoon sailing introduces basic manoeuvres and Man Overboard (MOB) procedures, ending at a coastal port with leisure time.
Day 2: Focus on developing sailing skills, practising sail hoists, drops, and reefing. Safe anchorage and vessel securing are taught during lunch. Afternoon dedicated to MOB recovery methods, helicopter rescue, flares, and life rafts. Ends with a night sail to a nearby marina, emphasising night safety and a debrief.
Day 3: Begins with theory on weather forecasting, collision regulations, and introduces new knots. Dinghy launching, rowing, and safe operation practised. Afternoon session on handling the yacht under power for confidence in steering. Evening ends at a marina with relaxation ashore.
Day 4: A full day at sea practising skills and knowledge, with a lunch stop. Assessment for certificates through Q&A rounds and a general knowledge quiz. Evening includes a special meal ashore and individual student debriefs.
Day 5: Return journey to base, revisiting exercises like MOB or anchoring. Completion of individual debriefs and log books. Yacht cleaning and tidying, ensuring it returns to its initial state, demonstrating leadership in maintaining standards.
